The Names of God

The name of the Lord God IS His powerful Presence.

It is a location. It is a covering. It is an unbreakable promise.

God reveals Himself to you with His name.

Like the beautiful rainbow that was set above Noah as a promise that God would bring life to the earth, His name is over you. His name speaks life over you.

In the old covenant with the Israelites, His name, YAHWEH, was found in the Holy of Holies. This was the localized Presence of God on this earth. His name WAS the alter. They could bring their enemies to the Place of His Name for judgement.

HIS NAME IS JEHOVAH.

"I Am That I Am." He is the self-existent one and He depends on no other. In the name of JEHOVAH,

He also shows, through its meaning, that He is constantly revealing Himself. The Name above all names is reaching out to you...to reveal Himself. We lift up our voice and pray, "JEHOVAH YAHWEH, Your Great Name I praise. There is no name above Your name."

HIS NAME IS ELOHIM.

"The Strong Creator." Genesis 1 says, "In the beginning ELOHIM created the heavens and the earth..."

He holds it all. He is the Potter and you are the clay. In the name of ELOHIM is three in one: Father, Son and Holy Spirit. We pray, "ELOHIM, reveal to me who You are and who I am in You. You are the One who created me. You are the One who died for me. You are the One who lives in me."

HIS NAME IS JEHOVAH-SHALOM.

"The Prince of Peace." The "Name of the Lord our Peace" is over you.

"My peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you. Not the kind of fragile peace given by the world, but My perfect peace." -Jesus. When the storms beat against us, we look to JEHOVAH-SHALOM. Like Peter, who followed Jesus out of the boat, walking on water, we lock our eyes on The Prince of Peace. He is our anchor, our focus, calming the waves of fear.

HIS NAME IS JEHOVAH-JIREH.

"The Lord our Provider." When Abraham went up the mountain to release his son, Isaac, to God, he called on the name of JEHOVAH-JIREH. He said, "In the mountain of the Lord, it will be provided."

The ultimate provision is found in Jesus Christ. "The Lord will meet all of your needs through His glorious riches in Jesus Christ." (Philippians 4:19) You are valuable to Him and He will provide all you need. Trust Him to make a way.

HIS NAME IS JEHOVAH-ROPHE.

"The Lord your Healer." The name of God is over you to heal your heart and your body.

God spoke to Moses, "I am the Lord that heals you." We know that Jesus "went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed of the enemy."(Acts 10;38)

God never changes. He will always be your healer. We pray like the prophet Jeremiah, "Heal me, O Lord and I shall be healed; Save me and I shall be saved, For You are my praise!" (Jeremiah 17:4)

HIS NAME IS JEHOVAH-TSIDKENU.

"The Lord our Righteousness." You do not need to be perfect to stand under the Name of God. He is perfect and has chosen to put His righteousness over you. In 2 Corinthians 5:21, He promises you,

"God made Him (Jesus) who had no sin to be sin for us, so that we-in Him might become the righteousness of God." Through this name He is revealing the heart of the Father who runs toward the prodigal son and puts a robe of honor on him and a family ring on his finger. A Father who celebrates the return of His child.

HIS NAME IS JEHOVAH-NISSI.

"The Lord our Banner." When the enemy comes at you, God holds up a standard high. This banner is His name. This is a battle reference. When a soldier in battle found his way to the banner, he was safe. He was not alone. God gives you a place under the shadow of the Almighty, His name, who's power no foe can withstand. (Psalm 91)

HIS NAME IS JEHOVAH-SHAMMAH.

"The Lord that never leaves you." You will never be alone.

Jesus said, "If you love Me, I will pray to the Father and He will give you another comforter that He may be with you forever." (John 14:16)

In this name, God is revealing His faithfulness. There is no shadow of turning in your heavenly Father. He is not inconsistent. He does not leave. He is a wrap-around Presence at all times. Just close your eyes and know.

HIS NAME IS JESUS.

His name is called "The Word of God." (Revelation 19:13)

"Therefore God exalted Him to the highest place and gave Him a name that is above every name. That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven, and those of earth, and those under the earth and that every tongue will confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father." (Philippians 2:9) "And there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved." (Acts 4:12)

The name that we are most thankful for is the name of Jesus. That name alone is the door to salvation and eternal life. Jesus told us to use His mighty name when we pray and our Father will hear and answer every prayer. Jesus told us to use His name to cast out the enemy, heal the sick and be a perfect protection.

The prophet Isaiah spoke this by inspiration from heaven: "For unto us a Child is born, unto us a Son is given; and the government will be upon His shoulder. And His name shall be called Wonderful Counsellor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace..." Jesus.

His name is His Presence. Your name is absorbed in that beautiful name.

We do not strive to take His place.

His Name, His Authority, His Promises of Life, His mercy, His love,

the Everlasting One is over you...forever.
